Event Announcement - The Portsmouth Distillery!!!

We are really excited to announce that The Portsmouth Distillery will be attending the Hayling Island Gin Festival with their Fort Gin on June 1st 2019.

I’ve always been really proud of where I grew up and have a sentimental attachment to Portsmouth and anything Portsmouth related.

Recently Dich from the Portsmouth Distillery got in touch and invited me down to their distillery, it sits within the 18th Century Fort Cumberland on the Eastern tip of Portsea Island, by the sea and surrounded by centuries of naval history. On arrival it was a bit like going back in time, you can feel the history surrounding the place.

The Distillery is located in two restored casemates once used to store ammunition for Nelson’s Navy and I was lucky enough to meet the distillers and their 500L pot still Sophie Wu from China.

Being proud of their heritage, and finding inspiration from their local area, with three of their botanicals being foraged from the grounds of the Fort - Elderflower, Gorse Flower and Sea Radish. The Gin has an initial sweetness that comes from Sweet Orange Peel, a smoothness from the Nutmeg, Ground Almond, Orris Root and Angelica Root, and edge of spice that comes in from Cardamom, Coriander, Szechuan Pepper and Pink Pepper.

Experimenting with flavours, mixers and garnishes is a really personal journey, as we all have our own favourite flavour profiles. We like our Portsmouth G&T with a light tonic with a squeeze of lime, letting the gin do the talking!

We were really impressed by the gin, the bottle, and the team here at The Gin Sessions. So we are pleased to confirm they will be exhibiting at our next event in Hayling Island on the 1st of June, chatting all things Fort Gin. You’ll also be able to find Fort Gin on Bar A and even attend one of their masterclasses.
